“Must Haves” when tooling around town with kids

How often have you been running errands or at a kid’s soccer game and thought “I wish I had ______ in the car?!” I have been in that position way too often. When I had babies/toddlers I had a diaper bag with all the essentials I would ever need and more! But now that my kids are older I had to come up with a new plan. Below are the essential items I keep in my car.

The items below are stored in my favorite Sterilite container and kept under my front passenger seat (YMMV). This makes it easy to grab for little mishaps.

  • Disposable Faskmasks

  • Band-Aids

  • Antiseptic Wipes

  • Ace Bandage Wrap

  • Hand sanitizer

  • Anti-itch cream

  • Tweezers

  • Rubber Gloves (cause sometimes we have to touch things that are gross!)

Often times, we need more than just basic first aid essentials. I keep these items in a larger storage bin in the trunk or behind the third-row of my SUV.

  • Antibacterial Wipes

  • Sunscreen

  • Bug Spray

  • Blanket or Towel (old bath towel or beach towel)

  • Sweatshirts

  • Emergency Rain Ponchos

  • Water Bottles

  • Individual Snacks (i.e. Goldfish, Mixed Nuts)

  • Roll of toilet paper

I also have a bag of stuff to keep the kids occupied. Having a few activities in the car makes those unexpected delays easier to handle!

  • Pack of colored pencils

  • Clipboard

  • Notebook of lined paper

  • Notebook of drawing paper

  • Deck of Cards

Hopefully, this list helps keep you prepared if the event that your child gets a scrape at the playground or you get stuck in the rain at a soccer game.
